Where Pain and Life Meet

Where Pain and Life Meet

How do we keep going when we're carrying something deeply painful?

How do we get out of bed?

How do we stay present?

How do we keep moving forward?

How do we keep our hearts open when part of us is carrying something that never quite leaves?

I can understand why we numb.

Why we suppress it.

Why we lock it away and throw away the key.

I've been there.

Because feeling it hurts.

But over time I've realised that the walls we build to keep pain out can also keep life out.

Wonder.

Connection.

Vulnerability.

The moments that remind us we're alive.

I've spent a lot of my life trying to understand suffering.

Trying to make sense of it.

And I think there can be value in finding meaning.

But some days I think the greatest act of courage is simply continuing to participate in life while we're still figuring it out.

Making breakfast.

Replying to the message.

Showing up to work.

Going to therapy.

Letting yourself hope again.

Making plans for next week.

Most of the people I admire aren't resilient because they're unbreakable.

They're resilient because they're breakable and keep showing up anyway.

Maybe the question isn't:

"How do I stop hurting?"

Maybe it's:

"How do I carry what hurts without losing touch with what makes life worth living?"

Because there are people carrying things they never chose.

Grief.

Heartbreak.

Trauma.

Loss.

Questions that never found answers.

And somehow they still reach for life.

They keep loving.

Creating.

Laughing.

Dreaming.

Building.

Not because the pain is gone.

But because life doesn't begin when the pain ends.

Life happens alongside it.

Maybe the fullness of our humanity isn't found in having everything resolved.

Maybe it's found in refusing to abandon the parts of ourselves that ache.

In being able to say:

This hurts.

This matters.

I wish it had been different.

And I am still here.

Still loving.

Still creating.

Still becoming.
